Artist's remarks about this painting:
As a playwright I’ve mostly used my eyes and ears to reel in the beauty of what surrounds, trying to maintain some kind of impartiality in rearranging facts and fiction to get a message through, the explanatory image attached being me behind a curtain, looking outside, observing. When I started painting and felt the urge to document less of what I can see but focus on my inner worlds, I stumbled upon these landscapes I initially called my Hinterlands, the German word for ‘the land behind’, as they felt so familiar yet untouched. They still do and I hope they always will.
